Short Mat Bowls

Between the months of September and April, the Clubhouse is converted into an indoor "Green", with two Short Mats. These mats are 45ft long and 6ft wide, and the simple (yet challenging) objective is to get your bowls closer to the jack than your opponents.

We play in competitions and league matches as well as "roll-up" sessions:

All short mat sessions are charged at £2 per user. Greys are worn for league and friendly matches, but for roll-ups no formal dress standard is required.

Competitions
5 short mat club competitions are run each year. Entries are required for the draw to be made in (usually) mid November.

Members registered with the ESMBA may also enter Surrey competitions.

Practice Sessions (Roll-ups)
In 2018/9, the club has 4 roll-up sessions each week. These are:

Tuesday morning 9:45am for 10.00am start
Tuesday evening 7pm for 7.15pm start
Wednesday morninig 9:45 for 10:00 start (coaching session)
Wednesday afternoon 2pm for 2:15 start
Thursday evening 7pm for 7.15pm start

All members and potential members are welcome. Teams are drawn from a hat and is dependent on the number of people turning up. New or potential members are placed in positions in a team where their level of expertise can be developed.

League

The club enters 2 teams (Cobham Blue and Cobham Yellow) in the SHAB League (derived from Surrey, Hampshire & Berkshire). To play in either of these teams, members must be registered with the ESMBA. Cobham Blue currently plays in Division 1 and Cobham Yellow in Division 2. Teams are picked for maximum strength.

A team is entered in the Monday Surrey Triples League and Monday Evening Lightwater League, which are played at Wey Valley Indoor Bowls Club. Players must be ESMBA registered.

Two teams (Cobham Pink and Cobham Green) are also entered in the Wey Valley Thursday Afternoon League, which is played at Wey Valley Indoor Bowls Club. Players must be ESMBA registered.

Friendlies
Friendlies are arranged for various dates throughout the season (mostly Sunday afternoons), and details are posted within the clubhouse. Any member can put their name down to play, but preference will be given to those not playing league matches, though it is often dependent on the skill requirements needed from those available.
